` Since our inception in 2019, Local 4 Life has been making a positive impact in the community by cultivating local connections and providing educational outreach opportunities. Our staff and volunteers have offered unique events, such as family outings at local farms, educational children’s workshops at local farms and businesses and contests that promote the importance of supporting local. These programs have spanned six surrounding towns and impacted people of all ages in those communities.
In the year 2023, we are looking to expand on our educational outreach efforts in the local community. Our vision for this includes implementation of original lesson plans, units and hands-on experiences for students in grades K-6 that would teach science, conservation and build community by connecting schools and local farms. With enough funding, we could reach approximately 3,774 students in the towns of Webster, Dudley, Charlton and Oxford. These schools comprise a range of 15% to 48% minority students, an average of 14.6% English as a Second Language students, an average of 20% students with disabilities and a range of 27.7% to 73% low income families. Our lessons include hands-on lessons about growing food, the workings of local farms and the many benefits of eating local, as well as science and engineering topics. The impact that this type of curriculum could have on these students and their families is exciting to think about.
Your generosity means the world to us. The support from our sponsors in the past year has helped with our small operating costs and some funding for programs and events. With your help, we can accomplish our goals of expanding our educational programs, curriculum, events and broadening our impact in the community.
